Your #fresnofirefighters have a tradition among the members. Every year, one member receives the trophy for “Most Working Structure Fires”, and that trophy is passed down by the recipient from the previous year. This year, FF Gabriel Lopez of Engine 4 responded to 66 working structure fires and proudly received the trophy from his captain, assigned to the same engine company. Your Fresno firefighters work hard for you every day. Many of them respond to well over 50 working structure fires a year along with hundreds of hours of training, medical aid responses, rescues, and calls for service. #fresnofire #servefresno
Your #fresnofirefighters have had a busy January. 524 fires since the first day of the year, with 294 of these incidents having homeless involvement.
Today, they were called out to a vacant home on the 3800 block of E. Woodward for a reported structure fire. This is the site of previous fires related to homeless activity.
On arrival, firefighters encountered smoke showing and initiated an interior fire attack. The crews inside found that someone had been burning wire intentionally on the floor of the home. They knocked down the fire quickly and while conducting a search of the occupancy, firefighters rescued this little girl from the room the fire was started in. She was found sealed inside a backpack. The puppy was evaluated on scene and turned over to SPCA. Happy to report that the quick actions of the Engine 4 and Engine 8 crews were able to get her out before she was injured.

464 fires since the 1st day of 2021 have kept your #fresnofighters incredibly busy in this new year. Want to help us protect Fresno? Your chance will be here soon.
Every new recruit to the fire department has to attend and complete a full training academy known as "drill school". This is a long, grueling process designed to prepare recruits for the dangers and challenges that FFD personnel face every day. Upon graduation from this academy, successful candidates are awarded the privilege of having their badge pinned on their chest by a loved one and then promoted to Firefighter. Then the real work begins. An assignment to a busy firehouse in the city and a 13 month probationary process commences where each individual is continually tested to their limits. The citizens we work so hard to keep safe deserve the best and we will not settle for less so get yourself ready for the challenge!
Go to FRESNO.GOV/FIREJOBS and research all the information about our upcoming recruitment. Register and participate in our first ever Town Hall Recruitment Webinar, spots are filling up fast and are limited to the first 500 people to register. Find an EMT course and sign up for a CPAT test as soon as possible. Spring will be here fast and you do not want to miss out on this opportunity. We hope to see you next week in the webinar. All information can be found on the recruitment page.

Your #fresnofirefighters want to congratulate Captain Ockey on his retirement! His career began in November 1987 and he rode away on a skateboard December 5th, 2020. Captain Ockey spent much of his career Downtown at the busiest stations as well as in the Training Division. He finished off his career at Station 17 in North Fresno. Captain Ockey, your Fresno Fire family wish you a happy retirement! Thank you for all you’ve done for the city and for the members of Local 202! Enjoy the ride! #fresnofire
Your #fresnofirefighters want to thank you for all your support this year. 2020 was tough for many of the wonderful families in our city, but rest assured that our service to you will always be our top priority. 2021 won’t be any slower; we get busier and busier every year. Short clip of your #fresnofirefighters making entry on the second story #apartmentfire last week. We have some news. Your #fresnofirefighters are changing back to IAFF Local 202.
On July 10, 1919, your Fresno City Firefighters joined the IAFF as Local 202, but on August 1, 1923 Fresno City Firefighters left the IAFF.
After some time, on May 13, 1943 Fresno City Firefighters rejoined the IAFF as Local 753.
President Sanders was approached by some members a couple years back to see if it was possible to go back to L202. He reached out to the IAFF to see if it was possible, and after finding out it was, President Sanders and the E-Board voted to allow the body to decide what number they would like to be. The votes were tallied and Local 202 passed by 62%.
We are still your #fresnofirefighters. Nothing has changed at all there. We are just embracing a little more of the history of this great department and some of the hardest working firefighters in the country. This action will officially be read into the record of the IAFF October Executive Board Meeting. #fresnofire

Your #fresnofirefighters here at home and present at the Lightning Complex Fires give our deepest condolences to the family, friends, loved ones of FF Diana Jones of Cresson, Texas, who lost her life fighting this fire on 8/31/20. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and the Cresson Fire Department.
One of your #fresnofirefighters returned to work after 6 months of fighting and recovering from cancer. So glad to have you back, Brother. Keep the thoughts and prayers coming for your #fresnofirefighters; we still have others fighting cancer. All of the posts we have put out about the hours we spend around smoke, fire, other carcinogenic materials should be a sobering reminder for all of you who support us: this job is deadly. But this is what we all signed up for. We will continue to work tirelessly through these challenging times. We love this city and we love the communities in it. #fresnofire #servefresno
FFD HAS EXPLOSIVE, RECORD SETTING JULY

#fresnofire #servefresno
It’s an understatement to say Fresno Fire units had a busy weekend.
On the 4th of July, crews responded to:
211 calls (135 fire calls), 55 vegetation fires, and 6 working structure fires. To put that in perspective, San Francisco has almost twice the population of Fresno and it was reported that they had 101 fires on the 4th of July. We responded to 135.
On July 5th, FFD ran another 185 calls bringing the two day, 48 hour count to 396 emergencies responded to. That’s a 60 percent increase over the average daily total call amount and it stretched the already thin resources to the max.
Strong work from your tireless #fresnofirefighters to protect our community.
#fresnofire #servefresno
A two week summary shows the following (data from 0430 hours on 6/16/20 to 0430 hours on 6/30/20):
41 residents were displaced from their homes from fire damage.
$870,026 dollars in total fire loss resulted from all types of fires.
Fresno Fire responded to 229 fires during this period.
With the 4th of July approaching fast, we encourage everyone to make good choices to protect our community. Please be responsible this weekend and look out for one another.
We are here for you Fresno, let’s all have a safe holiday.

Shortened clip of the fire in Central Fresno as requested. This fire presented a unique hazard to your #fresnofirefighters with the gas meter being involved in the bulk of the fire. The firefighters adapted and overcame the hazard quickly and extinguished the rest of the fire. #workingfire #forcibleentry #halligan
Short clip of one of your #fresnofirefighters from Engine 12 extinguishing a well involved commercial truck yesterday. This fire started some vegetation and nearby fencing on fire as well. Your #fresnofirefighters worked quickly to contain and suppress this fire. No injuries reported. #fresnofire
Between 4:30 AM yesterday and 4:30 AM this morning, your #fresnofirefighters responded to 126 emergency calls. 24 of these were fire calls. All in 24 hours. That is an average of 5.25 emergencies in the city per hour, 1 of them being a fire.
With temperatures expected to reach 100 tomorrow and stay that way for the next week, we anticipate being even busier.
No matter the challenge, we will be there when you call.
